This landmark 1930 Art Deco structure gains its name from New York entrepreneur and philanthropist John Bass, who donated his art collection to the city of Miami Beach. The permanent collection includes European holdings particularly rich in religious artifacts and French and Flemish tapestries. Highlights include paintings by such masters as Peter Paul Rubens and Sandro Botticelli. The recent completion of the first phase of the museum's ongoing expansion-designed by Japanese architect Arata Isozaki-more than doubled the museum's size.
