This expansive, mega-entertainment complex on the Cumberland River about 9mi northeast of downtown Nashville encompasses the world's longest-running live radio show, the Grand Ole Opry. After occupying the Ryman auditorium for nearly 30 years, the Opry moved to the Grand Ole Opry House, a glitzy, 4,400-seat high-tech performance venue outfitted with Hollywood-caliber lighting, and television and recording capabilities. Today the Opry continues to draw crowds for its weekend shows, as well as studio audiences for Opryland's two cable television networks, The National Network (TNN) and Country Music Television (CMT). Tours include a chance to stand before the microphone on the grand stage itself.
