Overlooking Gloucester Harbor and the distant Boston skyline, this 40-room summer residence of architect-decorator Henry Davis Sleeper (1878-1934) contains an imaginative mix of period styles and décors. Sleeper wished to create a different mood and character in each room. Thus, beneath the varied roofline of chimneys, turrets, spiral flues and towers, he designed a Colonial Paul Revere Room, an Indian Room, a Byron Room and a China Trade Room, among others. His creations here made him one of the most celebrated decorators of his day.
