Hartford : Michelin's recommendations

Rising beside the Connecticut River, Connecticut's state capitol bears the nickname "Insurance Capital of the Nation", thanks to the fact that the headquarters of several major insurance companies are located here. The downtown, revitalized during the past few decades, features spanking new shopping and business complexes, notably Constitution Plaza and the Civic Center. Beloved American author Mark Twain lived and worked in Hartford in the 19C; you can visit the house where he wrote several of his most successful works. Also well worth exploring is the excellent Wadsworth Athenaeum Museum of Art.
