Designed by Stanford White to resemble the Grand Trianon at Versailles, this H-shaped manse faced with white-glazed terra cotta was completed in 1902 for one of Newport's most celebrated hostesses, Mrs. Hermann Oelrichs. Its grand 80ft-by-40ft ballroom was the setting for some of Newport's most spectacular events; scenes from the 1974 film The Great Gatsby were filmed here.
