This broad street lined with Federal-style mansions illustrates the wealth of 19C Salem. The majority of the dwellings on Chestnut Street were built between 1800 and 1820; their size and richly adorned facades are unrivaled. Hamilton Hall (no. 9) was designed by Samuel McIntire. The Stephen Phillips Memorial Trust House (no. 34), decorated with furnishings from around the world, is open to the public.
