One of the best Italian options in the area, this very authentic Theater District favorite heightens the everyday into true art. Dressed to look like an ancient farmhouse, guests are greeted by stone and stucco walls, exposed wood beams, and great old photos; not to mention the spot-on service. A few benevolent rounds of cheek-kissing and hand shaking are reserved for the chic regulars flocking in. Yet when it comes to the food, La Masseria leaves the theatrics at the door. There are no distractions on a plate of fried zucchini named for the chef, Pino; or stuffed eggplant with smoked mozzarella. Other favorites have included calf liver sautéed with blueberry vinegar; or oven-roasted rabbit fragrant with fresh herbs and splashed with a wine sauce.
