It's wall-to-wall at this beloved trattoria, where cheerful patrons can be found slurping down heaping bowls of pasta in a lively atmosphere. A stone's throw from Columbia University, Max SoHa draws in a diverse crowd. The small, fetching space exudes a rustic air with its walls of exposed brick, weathered wood, mismatched dishware, and daily specials spelled out on chalkboards. The Italian-only wine selection is terrific and well-priced, so sip a little vino to get things warmed up. Traditional Italian flavors get whipped into an array of antipasti, risotti (maybe salmon and zucchini?), and entrées such as grilled skirt steak with mushrooms and roasted potatoes. The house-made tiramisu gets a Cointreau kick, for a tasty twist on the original.
