This Lexington Avenue corner is a classy scene through and through. The art nouveau look is so well done it may as well be an authentic tableau of hand-laid mosaic tiles, mahogany paneling, and a pewter-topped bar. When the weather warms, the chic crowd spills out onto the sidewalk, protected by a wide awning. Chef Antoine Camin, formerly of La Goulue, has brought his celebrated cheese soufflé with him, as well as his deliciously signature touches brightened with au courant flourish. The ladies who lunch happily devour the likes of Japonais tartare—a cylinder of chopped tuna moistened by toasted sesame oil and flecked with tempura bits and wasabi cream. Classics like the golden brown, creamy, cheesy croque monsieur do this brasserie proud.
