With its killer sake list and delicious small plates, this unassuming Japanese den has gotten deservedly popular in the last few years. For those who can find it (hint: it's in the basement of that office building), plan for a swinging night out in Tokyo by way of midtown. Grab a seat at the counter to amp up the fun and watch the libations flow. Though the menu is built to complement the sake, the food more than merits its own applause. A soft boiled egg bobs alongside fresh uni and salmon roe in a lovely dashi ( onsen tamago ); while grilled eel is layered with Japanese cucumber and seaweed in a light rice wine vinegar vinaigrette ( uzaku ); and chicken is marinated in sake and ginger-infused soy sauce, then fried to sweet perfection ( tori karaage ).
