The scene may not impress, but this Indian spot is heads above other neighboring eateries that line these bare streets of this fast-changing neighborhood. A small, lovely bar greets diners as they enter Taj Tribeca, and an exposed brick wall, adorned with heavy wood-framed mirrors, adds a sense of space. Sitar and sarod tunes, sconces, and splashes of fuchsia, green, and red add some allure and softness to this long, deep room with wonderfully high ceilings. Creative dishes might include lasooni gobhi, cauliflower florets stir-fried with a touch of garlic and finished in a fragrant tomato base; crispy vegetable pakoras; and Kashmiri roganjosh, tender cubes of lamb simmered in a sensational stew of fennel seeds, chili powder, and ginger.
