From the outside, the Brooklyn Bridge appears to protect and cradle this twinkling local landmark. From the inside, its soaring height leads over the East River to the Manhattan cityscape and instantly conveys just why Buzzy O'Keefe first opened The River Café on the rather sketchy waterfront in 1977. Today, gardens, waterfalls, and a cobblestone drive gild its timeless beauty. Arrive by water taxi from Fulton Street for an inexpensive sightseeing ride that docks next to the restaurant. Amid such splendor, the service remains attentive from start to finish and the kitchen once a launching pad for A-list chefs, sends forth food that is equally focused, serious, and ambitious. Starters like Maine peekytoe crab soup with coconut milk, lemongrass, and Thai basil offer Southeast Asian accents. Market-fresh North Carolina red snapper-the pristine fillets delicately pan-fried and enhanced with fish fumet-is artistically presented with artichoke leaves and balanced by beurre blanc and verjus. Homemade cheesecake highlights undeniably superb ingredients. By the time it is finished tableside with passion fruit purée, this becomes another elevated classic, a world away from its humble beginnings.

      La vue sur Manhattan, à la condition d'être près de la vitre, ce qui n'a pas été le cas malgré notre demande lors de la réservation. La cuisine est correct, sana plus

      L'accueil(glacial), le service prétentieux, la cuisine est dénuée de toute créativité, de type "traiteur". Le service est inclus, ce qui est très surprenant car cela ne permet pas au client d'exprimer son évaluation. Etoile de complaisance??? qui ne veut rien dire en comparaison avec la France.

      Die schöne Lage des River Cafés unterhalb der Brooklyn Bridge mit schönem Panoramablick auf die Skyline von Manhattan wird konterkariert durch die eigentümliche Preispolitik des Hauses: pro Person wird im Café-Bereich ein Mindestverzehr von 25 Dollar berechnet. Da können zwei Gläser Wein am späten Nachmittag schnell über 60 Dollar kosten. Also: Vorsicht!
