Utilitarian, symbolic, functional and beautiful, American folk art in this museum's wide-ranging collection runs the gamut from ship figureheads to storybooks, quilts to artisan signs. The bilevel permanent exhibit, "Folk Art Revealed," displays 150 works from the 6,000-piece permanent collection in new and creative ways. The museum is housed in a striking facility designed by Tod Williams and Billie Tsien.
