In the narrow streets of New York's Chinatown, densely packed markets stock everything from lychee to lipstick, while storefront restaurants serve up all manner of Asian cuisine. Today the majority of Manhattan's Asians and Asian-Americans live in the area around Canal, Mott, Bayard and Pell Streets, the heart of Chinatown. The neighborhood comes alive with a bang during the Chinese New Year (first full moon after January 19) with traditional parades and fireworks.
