: Michelin's recommendations
Founded in 1754 by a charter from George II, King's College was first located in lower Manhattan, where the original class of eight men met in the schoolhouse of Trinity Church. Among the early students at King's College were Alexander Hamilton and John Jay. After the Revolution, the school reopened as Columbia College. In 1897 it moved to the present site after 40 years at Madison Avenue and East 49th Street. Today it has some 24,000 students and an endowment of $4.3 billion.
