Founded in 1897, this eclectic museum occupying an opulent, 64-room mansion on the Upper East Side explores design across continents and cultures. The collection of more than 250,000 objects related to the art, craft and commerce of design covers some 24 centuries and all the world's continents, and includes a robust prints and drawings collection as well as diverse objects like birdcages, wallcoverings, glasswork and embroidery samplers.
