Flagler Museum (Whitehall) Recommended Recommended : Michelin's recommendations

Built by Henry Morrison Flagler (1830-1913) as a wedding gift for his third wife, Mary Lily Kenan, the mansion (1901, Carrère and Hastings) served as the Whitehall Hotel from 1925 to 1959. Now a museum, the house is fronted by a landscaped walkway leading to a two-story veranda that spans the facade. Inside the mansion, Marble Hall, an imitation of a Roman villa's atrium, dazzles the eye with its masterful ceiling mural by Italian artist Benvenuti. Hung with Baccarat-crystal chandeliers, the Louis XIV Music Room was Kenan's favorite; the ornate ballroom was used to entertain society's elite. The second floor contains the Rococo-style master suite dressed in yellow watered-silk damask, and 14 guest suites.
