Topping bluffs above the James River, the former estate of the late-19C railroad magnate James Dooley and his wife Sallie May Dooley has become a city showpiece. The stone Romanesque Revival manor house, built in the 1890s, is decorated with the couple's extravagant Gilded Age furnishings, including a Tiffany-designed table of silver and carved narwhal tusks. Maymont's 100-acre grounds encompass formal gardens, a children's farm and a nature center.
