Mission de Nombre de Dios Interesting : Michelin's recommendations

Menéndez' chaplain marked the event by celebrating Mass, thus establishing the Mission de Nombre de Dios, the first Catholic mission in the US. Though nothing remains today of the original structures, the gleaming cross, erected in 1966 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the founding of St. Augustine, still looms above the salt marsh. Paths lead to an ivy-covered chapel housing the Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche, originally erected here in 1613 by Spanish settlers.
