This rectangular greensward occupies the historic levee once alive with waterfront commerce. In 1939, 40 square blocks of the then-decrepit area were razed to make way for a memorial to Thomas Jefferson and his vision of westward expansion.

- Old Courthouse is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.The Gateway Arch and Museum of Westward Expansion are open daily 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Memorial Day through Labor Day; 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. winter. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.
