Topped by a street-level garden, this handsome underground complex occupies a prime site in the shadow of the venerable Castle building. Opened in September 1987, the quadrangle comprises two Smithsonian museums-the National Museum of African Art and the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery-and an education center, the S. Dillon Ripley Center.
