A mastodon skeleton in the front hall greets visitors to this single-story museum. Found in central Palm Beach County in 1967 by a work crew, most of the original mastodon bones were destroyed or looted, but enough remained for paleontologists to reconstruct the entire creature. At some of the 28 different interactive exhibits visitors can test their senses, create frozen shadows and learn about electricity. Local flora and fauna are explored in a native plant center and aquarium room; another room is dedicated to temporary exhibits. The observatory, planetarium and laser shows are perennial favorites.
