Nové is Staten Island to a tee. Take a look around the room and see couples wearing sunglasses (even at night), dressed-to-the-nines. They are moneyed, mostly Italian-American, and all seem to know each other. Despite the elegant setting, the uninitiated may feel a bit like they're dining at the wrong cafeteria table. Then again, from coffered ceilings to carved wood moldings to a custom-made wine cabinet, no expense was spared in this opulent dining room, and that's exactly how this crowd wants it. The menu varies from simple, unadorned pastas, like rigatoni with prosciutto and mozzarella cubes, to carefully constructed veal scaloppini with prosecco sauce. The offerings may sometimes seem bizarre, but it is just what the diva ordered.
