Dramatically situated high in the Berkeley hills, this futuristic museum (1968, Anshen and Allen) is dedicated to teaching children about physics, biology, chemistry, navigation, mathematics, computers and lasers through interactive exhibits, laboratories and a comprehensive program of classes. The planetarium complements an active weekend astronomy program. Frequently changing temporary exhibits feature mechanical creatures, the mysteries of chemistry, and a variety of science topics ranging from prehistoric life to space travel. The view from the front patio overlooks much of the northern Bay Area.
