Before Colorado Springs there was El Dorado, settled in 1859 and soon renamed Colorado City. It became part of Colorado Springs in 1917. The Old Colorado City History Center, in an 1890 church, exhibits historic photographs, documents and memorabilia. Colorado Avenue is lined with restaurants, artists' studios and Western collectibles galleries in charmingly restored commercial buildings. Van Briggle Art Pottery is a century-old facility whose works have been displayed at the Louvre and Metropolitan Museum of Art.
