One of three national training centers for amateur athletes (along with San Diego, California, and Lake Placid, New York), this complex was built in 1978 on the grounds of a former Air Force base. The Visitors Center (1 Olympic Plaza) houses the US Olympic Hall of Fame. Free tours (60min) take visitors down the colorful Olympic Path pedestrian walkway to watch gymnasts and swimmers hone their skills; the International Center for Aquatic Research and a state-of-the-art sports-medicine clinic are of particular interest. More than 550 coaches and athletes, in two dozen sports, live here at one time.
