Operated by the Dallas Zoo, the aquarium is home to over 5,000 aquatic animals of 400 species, many of them anomalous fresh- or saltwater creatures-like fish with four eyes, fish that walk on land, and fish that are virtually invisible. Highlights include an Amazon River exhibit and tanks of native Texas species, including the rare Texas blind salamander and a 135-pound alligator snapping turtle. Visitors may attend public feedings of piranhas and sharks, and peer through windows to a breeding lab for endangered species.
