Part of the original claim of Eugene Skinner, who Butte occupies a central position along the Willamette River. Visitors can drive to the top of the butte for expansive views of Eugene and the Willamette Valley all the way east to the Cascades and west to the Coast Range. On the south slope of Skinner Butte sits the Queen Anne-style Shelton-McMurphey-Johnson House (303 Willamette St.), built in 1888.
