Fort Worth Recommended Recommended : Michelin's recommendations

“The place where the West begins” wears its heritage like a medal. Established in 1849 as a US Army outpost on the Trinity River, Fort Worth was named for Mexican War hero William Jenkins Worth. In the 1860s the town became a shipping point for buffalo hunters on the Great Plains. No city nickname has endured like “Cowtown,” a moniker adopted in the 1870s when beef cattle were driven up the Chisholm Trail from South Texas. Fort Worth was first a supply station and later, with the arrival of the railway, a major terminus itself.
