Kimbell Art Museum Highly Recommended Highly Recommended Highly Recommended : Michelin's recommendations

A showcase building (1972) and remarkable survey collection have made the Kimbell one of the finest small public art museums in the world. Architect Louis Kahn made innovative use of natural light, enabling curators to subtly rearrange generous space for special exhibitions. Although space limits the museum from displaying more than a fraction of its permanent collection at any one time, visitors might see such masterworks as Rubens' The Duke of Buckingham (1625); Rembrandt's Portrait of a Young Jew (1663); Cézanne's Glass and Apples (c.1879-82); Van Gogh's Daubigny's Garden (1890); Gauguin's Two Women (1902); and Matisse's L'Asie (1946). There are changing exhibits of pre-Columbian, African and Asian art, from ancient Assyrian sculpture to Ming bronzes.
