The flowing wave shapes of this $117 million shoreside aquarium (1998) contain one of the most comprehensive marine-themed exhibitions in California. Its canvas is the Pacific Ocean, represented by more than 12,500 creatures-from the icy arctic waters off Russia and northern Japan, the temperate waters of the California and Mexico coasts, and the tropical islands and lagoons of the Palau archipelago in Micronesia. These three marine eco-zones are divided into 97 major indoor and outdoor habitats and 32 smaller exhibits with more than 1,000 species of fish, birds, marine mammals, turtles and other denizens of the Pacific.
