Egyptian Theater Recommended Recommended : Michelin's recommendations

Built in the wake of worldwide excitement over the discovery of King Tut's tomb, this faux-Egyptian movie palace (1922, Meyer and Holler) opened to tremendous fanfare when Sid Grauman chose it to stage the world's first Hollywood premiere. Fully restored with a period marquee, palm trees and Egyptian motifs in the entrance portico, and an ornate sunburst-pattern ceiling, it reopened in 1998 as home to the American Cinemathèque's independent film program. A 1hr film on the history of Hollywood is screened on most weekends with an audio track available in multiple languages; screenings can be combined with tours.
