This open-air museum of railroad cars and steam locomotives, dating primarily from the 1880s to the 1930s, was founded in 1952 by Charley Atkins, an L.A. Department of Recreation and Parks employee and lifelong railroad buff. From the entrance, a quarter-scale four-cylinder propane locomotive takes visitors on a tour of the museum's perimeter ($1.25), and an indoor display presents antique firefighting equipment from the Los Angeles area.
