UCLA Hammer Museum Interesting : Michelin's recommendations

This university art museum presents a diverse schedule of historical and contemporary art exhibits (in 1999, Persian paintings, Soviet design, women photographers, Oscar Wilde), as well as a varied program of performing arts and selected works from the fine private collection of its billionaire founder, industrialist Armand Hammer. Begun in the 1920s. Hammer's collection features paintings and drawings by Old Masters (Tintoretto, Titian, Rubens) and French Impressionists and post-Impressionists (Degas, Manet, Cézanne, Gauguin, Toulouse-Lautrec). Its acknowledged highlight is Rembrandt's Juno (c.1662), a richly atmospheric portrait of the artist's mistress, Hendrickje Stoffels, painted from memory. Other important works include Monet's View of Bordighera (1884) and van Gogh's Hospital at Saint-Rémy (1889).
