Covering roughly nine square blocks immediately south of the UCLA campus, Westwood Village is the closest thing Los Angeles has to a student quarter. Pedestrians outnumber automobiles, and a compact assortment of mostly two-story Mediterranean-style buildings, largely developed by 1929, houses a variety of casual clothing boutiques, book and record stores, stationery and gift shops, cafes and restaurants. Eight cinemas-many of which preview soon-to-be-released movies-and a small playhouse offering live performances make the neighborhood even more popular as an evening and weekend haunt.
