An early-19C adobe crowing a wooded knoll southeast of downtown is the idyllic home of this the decorative arts museum surrounded by lovely gardens. Major expansions took place in the early 20C and in 1993. Galleries display the museum's collection of netsuke (Japanese carved toggles), early Chinese ceramics and bronzes, and an extensive collection of works by San Francisco-born artist Armin Hansen, who has been called the "Winslow Homer of the West" for his oil paintings and etchings depicting themes of the sea.
