The South Dakota Cultural Heritage Center is built into a hillside a few blocks north of the Capitol. Constructed to resemble an Arikara earth lodge (1989, Blake Holman), the center is both an archives and a museum that couples Native American and pioneer history in a series of intriguing exhibits.
