During the Alamo's tenure as a military outpost, "The Little Village" developed as a temporary community of people without land title. The Mexican surrender climaxing the Texas Revolution was signed here. Today this is a National Historic District. Early 19C structures house artisans in 26 studio shops; there are two restaurants and a museum exhibit.
