This folk art museum occupies six galleries on two levels of a building known since 1934 as the House of Charm. Mingei, a term by scholar Soetsu Yanagi, combines the Japanese words for people (min) and art (gei). Changing exhibits of traditional and contemporary folk art, craft and design have run the gamut from dolls to dowry furniture, textiles to stone sculptures, Haitian painting to Chinese jade. The Founder's Gallery presents functional elegance in American craft and Asian decorative art and furnishings. A quality museum shop is located near the front entrance.
