Bar Tartine's minor revamp resulted in a delightful though diminutive annex. Here, a daytime menu of open-faced rye bread sandwiches topped with smoked trout, chicken liver pâté, or cheeses meets a small menu of snacks and baked goods. In the evening, the annex closes and the entire wood-ridden restaurant is open for dinner. Friendly servers buzz around the welcoming room with such ambitious creations as a chilled white beet soup with whey, white curry, and coriander, nicely paired with smoky potatoes laid beside a ramp aïoli. Balancing earthy textures with hearty flavors are lentil croquettes served on sesame-kamut bread, layered with yogurt, cucumbers, and lentil sprouts.
