Bluestem Brasserie is a pleasant haunt that welcomes a blend of business folk and wandering tourists from nearby Market Street. The voluminous space features loft-like ceilings, a sweeping staircase, and a lounge frequented for after-work cocktails. The somewhat bumbling service doesn't quite match the classy vibe, but it's nothing that a menu rife with the best of Californian ingredients can't fix. Start with an arugula salad with grilled sweet corn, fresh apricots, and goat's milk cheese, tossed in a Meyer lemon citronette. Barbecue-spiced chicken is super juicy bathed in a fragrant garlic-rosemary jus; while dessert is a successful pairing of butterscotch-tapioca pudding with a salty-smoky bacon butter cookie shaped like a...you guessed it...pig!
