Delfina is one of those spots that is perennially popular with the Mission locals. The pizzeria next door does a booming business, but this spacious dining room is almost always packed, and highlights a neat arrangement of bare wood tabletops, a narrow counter (perfect for solo diners), and a semi-open kitchen. Mirrors on the side walls and a line of windows in the front give this space a larger and airy feel. There is no need to dress up for this casual, welcoming spot. Expect menu items such as hearty, chewy pappardelle tossed with flavorful pork sugo; tender-roasted and crisp-skinned quail served over creamy polenta; and chicken liver spiedini with guanciale and aged balsamico. Close with a lovely chocolate budino with salted caramel ice cream.
