This somewhat desolate stretch of Mission Street may seem an odd destination for happy hour, but Heaven's Dog brings it with a quirky vibe-think sleek banquettes and canine art-and inventive alcoholic creations such as the Shanghai Buck, a piquant concoction of Pompero Aniversario rum with fresh pressed ginger. Cocktailers, of course, will need a bite to eat and few will complain about the contemporary Asian fare dreamed up by Chef/owner Charles Phan—that's right, of Slanted Door fame. Phan's clever take on Chinese cooking brings wonderfully sticky-salty, hoisin-glazed pork tossed in a steamed bun, as well as sweet-and-sour-and-spicy tiger prawns with Thai basil and a fresh twist of pineapple.
