Cartoon Art Museum : Michelin's recommendations

This friendly museum is the only one of its kind in the United States. Founded in 1984 to foster appreciation of cartoon art, it was homeless until 1987, when Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz provided it with an endowment to rent a public space. It has since amassed an 11,000-piece permanent collection, including work dating from the late 18C. Samples are displayed alongside temporary exhibits of international and local cartoonists, many of whom use the medium to critique the status quo. Almost all of the work is shown just as it came off the drawing board, rather than in reproduction, so you can see the artist's hand at work sketching, correcting and polishing an idea.
