Conservatory of Flowers Interesting : Michelin's recommendations

This ornate Victorian glass palace shelters more than 20,000 rare and exotic plants under an octagonal central dome and two flanking wings. Golden Gate Park's oldest structure, the lacy white wood-frame building was prefabricated in Dublin, Ireland, modeled after the famous glasshouses of London's Kew Gardens; it was shipped to the San Jose estate of James Lick for installation. Arriving after Lick's death in 1876, the disassembled structure was purchased by a consortium of San Francisco businessmen led by Leland Stanford, and donated to Golden Gate Park. Seasonal blooms in formal geometric designs grace the parterres in front.
