The city's largest office and commercial complex, this series of four slab-like office towers, completed in 1982, and the adjoining Hyatt Regency Hotel (1973) cover nearly 10 acres between the Embarcadero and the heart of the Financial District. A three-level shopping center occupies its lower floors, running along historic Commercial Street; pedestrian bridges traverse cross streets to link the four structures. More than a dozen sculptures dot public spaces, among them works by Jean Dubuffet and Louise Nevelson. Linked to the east tower (Four Embarcadero Center) by a pedestrian bridge on the Promenade Level, the Hyatt Regency boasts an asymmetrical 17-story atrium, one of the more awe-inspiring of the city's interior spaces.
