One of the finest examples of San Francisco's dedication to preserving its historic buildings, this famed redbrick shopping and dining complex, once the home of the Ghirardelli Chocolate Factory, is being converted into time-share condominiums and a spa. There are no plans as of yet, however, to close the popular Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop, home of the Earthquake sundae-eight scoops, eight toppings, bananas, nuts and cherries-and many other types of chocolate confections (1st floor of Clock Tower Building; open year-round daily 9am-11pm, Fri-Sat until midnight; 415-474-3938).
