Stow Lake : Michelin's recommendations

Serving as the park's main irrigation reservoir, this picturesque moat surrounding Strawberry Hill is the largest of the 15 man-made lakes and ponds that dot Golden Gate Park. Swarms of waterfowl share the water with a flotilla of small boats, which may be rented from the boathouse on the northwest shore. The 428ft summit of Strawberry Hill, reached by footpath, is the highest point in the park and was famed for its panoramas of the city before trees grew to block the view. Constructed in 1894, a waterfall named for industrialist Collis P. Huntington cascades 125ft from the summit to the surface of the lake. A decorative Chinese moon-viewing pavilion stands on the island's eastern shore. Immediately north of Stow Lake, Prayer Book Cross, a 57ft Celtic cross carved of sandstone, dominates the hill above Rainbow Falls.
