Concord coaches of Wells Fargo & Co. began carrying freight and passengers in 1852, and the company's gold-shipping and storage services complemented its growth as a bank. In this modern two-level gallery, Wells Fargo's inherent links to California history are told via photographs, documents, gold nuggets, bank notes and coins. Displays explore such topics as gold assaying, stagecoach robbery and telegraphing. Visitors can view a restored original coach and climb aboard a reconstructed one on the mezzanine to hear the recorded description of a harrowing cross-country stagecoach journey in the 1850s.
