This homespun, family-owned Korean eatery in San Jose is one to rival any of the cuisine's authentic go-tos in Santa Clara. The traditional banchan may be lackluster, but area foodies come anyway for terrific bibimbap, a piping hot stone pot that may be loaded with tender spicy pork, shredded carrot and daikon radish salad, and scallions with an egg on top. SJ Omogari is a small, simple space with just a few wood tables and little art. And while you won't find the ubiquitous grill-topped tables, you will find most memorable galbi-smoky, grilled, and caramelized beef short ribs-from the kitchen. Soft tofu stews arrive with mushrooms or kimchi for vegetable lovers, and all meals end with a complimentary scoop of green tea ice cream.
